November 24, 2009—Normally shy and secretive, a male twig catfish takes center stage as he watches over his eggs at Washington, D.C.'s Smithsonian National Zoo—behavior that, in the wild, would help keep the fish-to-be from becoming a predator's lunch.

Earlier this month, one of the zoo's female twig catfish had laid between 30 and 60 eggs on the glass wall of her aquarium—which in the wild would be any open vertical surface. Her breeding partner—seen above with his pebble-like progeny—took over to guard the eggs until they hatched on November 12.

Zoo staff will carefully track the development of the newborns, since scientists haven't had much success raising twig catfish newborns in the past. The juveniles are picky eaters and, once hatched, can be hard to find even in a zoo tank, noted Vincent Rico, assistant curator for the zoo's Amazonia exhibit.

Twig catfish are native to the Amazon, Orinoco, and Paraná rivers of South America.

Scientists don't know how many twig catfish live in the wild, because the tiny, slim fish look remarkably like submerged plant debris, making them difficult to spot. (See related pictures of the world's largest catfish in Thailand.)

Wild female twig catfish lay their eggs on surfaces covered with algae, the food of choice for newly hatched fry. Adult twig catfish also munch on algae as well as the fallen plant matter they use for camouflage.

At the zoo, newborn twig catfish nibble on blanched kale, shelled peas, and sometimes the low-protein, low-fat gel the zoo feeds their parents, Rico said.

In addition to the new arrivals, ten adult twig catfish currently live at the National Zoo, although the youngsters and their parents are not in public tanks.

do you ever heard that hero always comes late?..what do you think of it?doesnt have any idea?.can you relate with our study life?hehe..this is what i heard from my math lecture..if you always struggle so hard and always get 4 flat in every sem..if one day you collapes..i mean you failed to get the result that you always was...its hard to get to the peak again..thats why, as my lovely lec said we have to be like a hero...then we struggle one step by step until at the end of the day you get the best result ever which is 4 flat..:P..if first sem we got 2.0..the next sem we proceed to make a better pointer even its just one point plus.."hero always comes late because they want to prove that they are the best of all...~the best is yet to come~ (butterfingers)

hemm..jamban comel ..aku nak cakap pasal love..dari sekolah rendah lagi..aku tertanya -tanya..hehe.LOVE what is that ,can we eat it or can we play with it.Hurm,sometimes orang selalu cakap crazy first love.Haha,whats that."kenkadang aku bosan ape la bende tuh best sangat ke".Sometimes ade orang cakap"love is like soup ,when its hot its delicios,then if its getting cold the soup is not like a soup tak sedap".Hehe,i think everyone have their own crazy first love.Me?hurm ade ke..owh mase time sekolah rendah kowt haha..dah lupe dah..tapi when we getting older our view about love will change..aku ingat lagi time sekolah rendah..asyik nak sakat pompuan jek konon suh diorang ambik perhatian kat kite la..haha..bile teringat balik aku ketawa sendirian.

Bila dah dewasa sket masuk sekolah menengah..time ni pon ade care gak.Aku ingat lagi mase aku form 1,biasanye time ni budak2 pompuan la sibuk nak cari senior jadi pakwe die la,abang angkat la haha,tapi budak2 laki masih sibuk dengan digimon ,pokemon ape lagi.hehe..dulu lain takde hanphone,skang masing2 dah ade phone sendiri kowt..hurm life change..hehe...dari mamak yang keje sapu sampah dah ade hanphone wow,tak sangka.Majunye dunia ini.(-_-)(d)..ape lagi,owh kiteorang dulu sibuk ngan pc,internet la,owh time tuh da ade cs..haha,emm teringat aku mase tuh kelas kiteorang petang ,so kiteorang datang awal sebab nak main pc la..then tengah syok main cs tetiba ade bapak sorang student datang

halo jambancomel lame aku tak update kau.Entah jiwaku ini merasa malas nak tulis-tulis nih.Ada banyak benda nak disebarkan dan dikeberkan .Tapi tengah kumpul bahan jek.hehe.so this time chaosity.Tentang ape?hik2 nak cite la nih.Mulanya cite ni lps klas mtaf.Klas yang disuruh kawat ngan disuruh dengar leteran.tapi untuk kebaikan kami gak.banyak yang diajar disiplin,jati diri,hormat,tanggungjawap,(weh da lari topik la).owh ok2.then lepas kelas tu,balik la hapa lagi.Efi ajax ngn huzair nak gi mines ,aku nak ikut ,dihalau mentah2 oleh mereka.haha.katenya ade something.Kalini ko tak leh ikut.Aduhai..yela penting sgt ker..carut2 aku dalam hati hehe..oleh sebab terlalu panas tidak diajak.Aku memecut motor kriss aku yg berkuasa 110 kuasa kuda ,sehingga hurm berapa km ntah haha sebab meter rosak ,prenggg!!!!aku pecut motor ku dengan hati yang bengang .walhal kawasan parking bawah library tu sempit jek.Tengah sedapku memecut ku ternampak lopak air betul2 dekat jalan keluar dari parking library..argh ade lopak .dengan sepenuh jiwa dan ragaku aku memeress pedal brek dpan ngan belakang lagi tuh takut basah kne air punya pasal haha..tapi malang nasib ini ..motorku hilang kestabilan dan berlaku la aksi stunt murahan..hak3..camne?motor aku seret ke depan dan aku jatuh berguling betul2 kne atas bontotku..aduh ,sakit nak mam..sah lebam nih..tak pun patah ..aku dah mule rsau..nasib baik takde orang mase tuh kecuali sebuah kete myvi warna kelabu..yang baru nak kuar..die nampak ke tak waallahhualam..so aku angkat balik motor aku ,sbab tak nak orang lain nampak aku pecut lagi motor aku haha(tak serik!!)..sampai bilik ,sebab sakit tak tertahan lantas aku menerjah atas katil..aduh sakit mak.. pinggul ku..

Sampai maghrib ,aku bangun anep kejutkan (mekasih)..mam bangun semayang..(owh yela2) baru nak hilang sakit nih..bagi la rehat sket...hak3.then siap mandi semayang ..lepas tuh pergi upten..aik diorang tak balik lagi..sape nak teman aku makan..aduhai..nasib baik afiq zizi patah ngn adi ade..ade gak teman haha...then ktrg duk sembang2 sampai si marwan datang ..mintak kterg ajar bahasa ..tukk ngorat awek haha..cam2 kterg ajar ,comey lote ,ayam,ekor benda2 ngarut jek..abis la rosak marwan tuh haha..tgah asyik berborak ..aku dapat satu call dari danial.."mam ko kat ane?"kiteorg nak ajak ko ke upten.."..dah aku ade kat sini dah"mane korang?"hehe..selang 10 minitnye diorang sampai dengan berbungkus-bungkus plastik ditangan .."weh apetuh cambest jek".."ala nnt la ko tgk ..kteorg nak siap2 dulu ...(kene halau lagi aduh) hak3..duk la aku jauh2 hehe..(lepas lima minit) ..ajax pon panggil aku..ape bende yang korng duk buat2 nih hehe..curios aku ceh..then aku ternampak satu kotak merah yang bisa dilihat kat tertulis secret recipes ..then si efi bukak la kotak tu ,dan aku nampak "alkimia dan ba#$@selamat hari jadi (kalau tak silap aku ar)..(siot tol takde name lain ke ha?)haha..owh diorang nak sambut hari jadi aku sebenarnye!!!owh terharu..aku sambut sekali ngan syah sebab hari jadi die 12 november, walhal aku punye besday 7 november hehe...takpe la tak kisah ..terima kasih semua,efi ajax huzair zati reen nisa semua yang terlibat la senang kerana susah2 nak sambut besday aku..im really apreciate that..:)..(masuk dalam buku memori indahku di uniten ahak)..btw thanks for hadiah ~white tiger zati bagi time melalui reen mtaf..lame dah aku nak bace buku tuh padahal akak aku ade hehe...die kedekut ceh..kpal layar naninye ,coklat nisanye (aku dah mkan habis dah )...baju star bintang2 ajax efi uzair tong2 bayar hak2..dan doa2 ngn frendship itu jugak hadiah berharga (^_^)..dah abis?tak lagi haha...sebelum siap2 nak blek ..efi kata weh ade lagi hadiah tuk ko kat lam bonet kete meh la ambik ...ha?
